James Baker and Jason Mazzochi: Cutting Edges - Analysing representation through sound and editing in TV drama

This session will look at approaches to Section A of G322, focussing in particular on the study of sound and editing as technical codes in the construction of representation.  Over the last few years of the exam, these have been the technical areas that students have found the most difficult to link consistently with their discussion of representation and the session will cover some strategies for teaching these challenging areas, along with discussion of the key elements of each and plenty of examples of sound and editing at work in TV drama.

Jason is Principal Examiner for the G322 unit and Head of Social Science and Media at Acland Burghley school, North London and the lead subject teacher for media in the London Borough of Camden. He has authored regular features for the Media Magazine and is co-author of the OCR Media Studies for AS Dynamic Learning CD Rom.

James is Head of Media Studies at Hurtwood House School and Assistant Principal Examiner for A Level Media Studies G322 unit.  He is the author of several books on media education and a freelance teacher trainer.
